Let’s get another brilliant herb gardening idea your way, shall we. Recently I shared the diy vertical herb garden, and before that is was this diy herb garden spiral. As already told you, and will tell you again today, I am addicted to these things. Which means I pretty much will try any new idea I run into, like this diy plastic milk bottle herb garden.
This project is perfect for those of us, who not only enjoy herb gardening, but also love saving mother earth. It allows you to do both of these, by repurposing old milk bottles that you would have otherwise thrown away. As for the type of herbs you can grow in these planters, it is pretty much whatever you want to grow. Sow your seeds or buy young plants, the later being the easy route.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- assorted herb plants or seeds
- potting soil
- old plastic milk bottles
- wooden baton
- scissors,
- craft knife
- hole puncher
- metal ruler
- permanent black marker pen.
- labels
If you were planning on just using these milk bottles without washing them I am sorry to burst your bubble. They will need a good cleaning before you can start cutting out the various sections as per the instructions. I tried drawing my own guideline markers or the cuts, but that went horribly wrong. I recommend that you just cut along the seam lines on the bottle, it is easier trust me.
For the slits in the back, back sure they are just big enough to allow your rod to slip through. Any bigger and you will have wobbly planters. For those of us who may not be gifted artists, just label the planter with the marker instead. Even better stick on a label, that you can remove, should you decide to grow a different herb in that particular herb planter.
