DIY Old Car Chicken Coop

Alright, I don’t have too much time today, so I am going to make this a quick post. Just last week I shared this diy old water tank chicken coop idea, and in previous posts I have also shared this diy old trampoline chicken coop and this diy recycled doors chicken coop. Well, the other day I discovered this diy old car chicken coop idea on Pinterest.

I immediately recognized the practical use, I am sure you have seen many homesteads that have old cars just lying around rusting away. Even if you didn’t have one, you probably could easily get one for free and use that instead. Although I think it would be more of a temporary, rather than a fixed solution. The longer it sits out there, the more rust it will collect. I am no veterinarian, but I think that may end up being an issue for your chickens over time.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • old car shell
  • chicken wire
  • wire cutter
  • wire
  • wire ties
  • straw or hay
  • tarp (optional)

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate step by step instructions for this project. However, you can just build yours by looking at the picture above. The car shell provides the outside structure for your coop. The chicken wire is wrapped around and attached to the car to cover all the open areas. I would place a tarp on the bottom, followed by straw or hay on top of it. For laying hens, add one or two nesting boxes, in the back trunk area. Voila, you have a chicken coop! 🙂
