DIY Natural Stick Chicken Coop Ladder

When it comes to chicken coops, the lord knows we have tried and tested our fair share. We started with the diy all season hoop chicken coop, then added the diy wood pallet chicken coop and eventually made this neat  diy chicken coop ladder. They all have their advantages and disadvantages but at the end of the day the chickens always need a way to enter their coop or access the roost and this diy natural stick chicken coop ladder will do the job.

Using natural readily available materials for projects on the homestead is my preferred way of doing
things. In this case, all you need to do is re-purpose some plywood, and then then chop down a few sticks from the woods. This is a quick project, which should not take more than 30 minutes to complete.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • plywood
  • sticks and small logs
  • nails or wood screws
  • wire
  • hammer
  • cordless drill (optional)
  • marker (optional)
  • tape measure (optional)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Lay down your plywood plank and mark
every 4 to 6 inches using your tape measure.

Step 2.

Nail or drill down the sticks at the
marked spots.

Step 3.

Place your completed ladder in place, by
the coop door or leading to the nesting boxes.

The only thing left to do, is to train your chickens to use the ladder. It may take a while but once they get the hang of it, they will use it daily without any hassles. Keep an eye on the sticks, they may fall off from regular use. If that happens, simply replace them. We have had to do it a few times already with ours!
