DIY Fruit & Veggie Rack

Oh my, I have been wanting to build one of these for ages. I mean it only makes sense considering that we usually store most of the produce in the diy trash can root cellar outside. It is actually quite a walk to get to it and is very inconvenient especially if you are busy in the kitchen. This is why I have decided to finally make one of these diy fruit and veggie racks, for my kitchen.

The basic design allows you to tailor this to your needs. What I mean by that is, if you need more baskets you can easily add them to the rack. However, instead of having if on the counter or table, you may have to stand it on the ground. Also if you want bigger or longer baskets, the plans allow you to do that as well. For us, the simple two basket rack will be sufficient for now.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Alright, first of all you are going to have to figure out how big you want your basket. The best way to do that, is to do as she does in the video. Grab some of the produce you want to store in the baskets, lay out everything on the table and measure the length and width. With those measurements, you can go ahead and make your required cuts with the miter saw.

Arrange your cuts on the table and then start with the first basket. April recommends you start from the bottom, attaching the slats using the wood glue and the brad nails. With the sides complete, you can move on to the sides and then repeat for all the other baskets. The only thing left to do would be to attach the sides or stands and then apply wood finish or stainer. That last step is optional. 🙂
