Solar energy can also be used to heat your home during the winter months. This DIY Foil Solar Panels for Windows, uses the sun’s heat to heat any room you place it in.
Ohio Mike’s design is the first solar ‘panel’, I have heard off that is placed inside the home instead of hanging it outside.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- screen frame material
- screen framing corners
- aluminum flashing
- black cinefoil
- heat resistant aluminum tape
- window treatment film (comes with double sided tape)
- suction cups
- eye screws
- #10 eye screws
- 2 soffit vents (optional)
- tin snips or heavy duty scissors
- needle nose pliers
- tape measure
- marker
- utility knife
As with most solar projects the first thing that is built is the frame. The size of the panel can be custom fitted to any window. However, this panel only works in south facing windows.
Total build time is about 60 minutes. The black foil collector can reach about about 150 degrees, even on cloudy days. Small fans can be added to help circulate the heated air.
