Nothing gives me more joy than making sure that my chickens are well fed and healthy. Hence over the years I have shared the homemade fermented chicken feed and also how to grow organic chicken feed. Supplements are also essential for their diet, that is when you will find these diy chicken feed supplement canisters extremely useful.
At any one point, your chickens may require as many as 9 different supplements. If you do not maintain an organized storage system, you may have a hard time keeping tabs of all of them. Thank goodness, I discovered that you can re-purpose some large coffee canisters and use these to store your supplements. Of course, you could just label the canisters with a marker, but that is not pretty at all.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- large plastic coffee canisters
- pastel spray paint
- custom vinyl decals
- old newspapers or tarp
- labels (optional)
- markers (optional)
I know she used coffee canisters, but any other similar large plastic containers should do the trick. Wash the containers before using them and leave them to out dry in the sun. After the canisters are dry it is time to apply at least two coats of spray paint. I laid out some old newspapers on top of an old tarp to keep the painted canisters off the ground as I waited for the paint to dry up.
