DIY Chicken Egg Candler

Besides raising chickens for eggs, we also try to hatch a few of the eggs. We have built the diy chicken egg incubator in the past which we use for hatching the eggs. However, we only want fertilized and developing eggs in the incubator, and this is when this diy chicken egg candler becomes handy as it allows us to peak inside the eggs.

Out of all the other diy egg candler designs I looked at on the internet, I liked this one best. Why, I hear you ask? Not only is it easy to build, it is also ridiculously cheap. The only thing that you may need to buy is the light, but most of us already have those. Although the title targets chicken eggs, you can modify yours by adjusting the hole on the top for other eggs.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

I like to use the toilet paper roll as it is shorter and easier to wrap in electrical tape. Take a few minutes to completely wrap the tube in electrical tape, before inserting the light inside. To use switch on the light and place the egg on top as long as the light is strong enough and none of it is leaking you should be able to see inside the egg.
