It wouldn’t be a complete homestead kitchen, if your did not own at least one cast iron skillet, would it now? There are some recipes that need to be cooked in a skillet, in order to bring out all the flavors. Do you remember the Moroccan chicken tagine skillet recipe , shrimp and sausage skillet recipe and the skillet sausage and zucchini recipe? Well in today’s post I want to share this cast iron pizza recipe, with you guys.
I don’t know how many homemade pizza recipes you have tried before, but this one is way up there on my list of favorites. It is versatile, you can use store bought dough instead of making your own. As for the toppings, whatever you like or have available will work. If you choose to make the dough from the recipe below, you can store it in your fridge for up to 72 hours. This recipe is enough to serve up to 8 people.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- warm milk
- lukewarm water
- active dry yeast
- large eggs
- honey
- extra virgin olive oil
- all-purpose flour
- salt
- 17″ cast iron pan
- dual handle 12″ pan
- toppings (your choice)
- pizza sauce
- mozzarella cheese
- plastic wrap
- rolling pin
I prefer to make my homemade cast iron pizza dough just before making the pizza itself. Just allow at least 3 hours for the dough to rise before adding your toppings. When rolling out the dough, try keeping the edges thicker than the center. Use olive oil to grease your skillet instead of the cooking spray. This type of pizza is baked in your oven at 500 degrees F until the crust is golden brown. If you like crispy edges, then place it on the stove top on medium heat, for an extra 1 to 2 minutes. Enjoy! 🙂
