There is absolutely no excuse for a funky smelling home, even when you are living off grid on a homestead. If push comes to shove, you could always head out into the woods to forage for herbs and use those to freshen your home. Otherwise you can always make this homemade natural air freshener spray or opt for the homemade gel air freshener version featured below. The choice is yours, just make sure you keep that home smelling fresh, please!
It is a good idea to have a couple of these homemade air freshener recipes at your disposal. For instance, the one below only requires 3 ingredients which are readily available in most kitchens. When making your own air fresheners at home, you have the ability to invent your own fragrances by experimenting with different essential oil combinations. My personal favorites have always been lavender and citrus essential oils. Although, of late I have been experimenting with different blends, just to keep things a little more exciting.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 1 envelope clear gelatin
- 1 cup hot water
- 4 drops food coloring of your choice
- 30 to 40 drops essential oil of your choice
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Empty the gelatin packet and add the hot water to your jar. Stir well to combine.
Step 2.
Add a few drops of the food coloring.
Step 3.
Add the essential oil(s) and stir well to mix.
Step 4.
Leave the jar overnight to harden.
It maybe necessary to stir the contents of the jar a few more times while its hardening in order to keep all the ingredients combined. The more the drops of essential oil used the stronger your fragrance is going to be. Glitter, faux flowers, ribbons or herbs can also be added to the jars, in addition to the food coloring for different looks. Your homemade gel air freshener should last you about 30 days.
