Even though farm fresh canning season is pretty much over, it does not mean that we cannot share some recipes, right? Although I have already shared this canning homemade salsa recipe and this canning homemade Rotel recipe, I thought you might just be interested in this fire roasted salsa canning recipe too.
There are quite a few salsa recipes out there for you to choose from. However what sets this one apart from the rest is the combination of grilled tomatoes, poblano peppers and jalapenos. With the addition of the extra spices, you end up with this distinct fiery salsa that tickles the taste buds. It will take about one and a half hours to prep, cook and can, but it is surely worth your time and effort.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- tomatoes
- poblano peppers
- jalapeños
- white onion
- garlic cloves
- apple cider vinegar
- cilantro
- dried oregano
- cumin
- kosher salt
- sugar
- gloves
- cutting board
- sharp knife
- pint canning jars
- large bowl
- plastic wrap
- large pot
- immersion blender or food processor
- canning funnel
- ladle
- damp cloth
- water bath canner
- kitchen towel
As with all fresh veggies, make sure that you wash and rinse them before you begin. The tomatoes will also need to be cored and marked ‘where X marks the spot’. Place both on your grill until the tomatoes have blackend spots and the can easily be removed. The peppers should be looking burnt with blisters too, when done.
Remember to wear gloves when you are working with the peppers, or else you will learn the hard way like us stubborn people did. LOL. All ingredients are pureed together using the blender, seasoning added and then the canning can begin. The jars are processed in a water bath canner for at least 15 minutes, then you can leave them out on the counter to seal overnight.
