Just as us humans, all vegetables are not created equal. Some enjoy full sun, other prefer the shade. Whilst others may need a whole season to be ready for harvest, other vegetables maybe ready for harvest within a few weeks. In this post, we shall be taking a look at 5 of the fastest growing vegetables that you can plant in your garden.

This by all means is not an exhaustive list, but is instead just a quick guide. Naturally, we tend to expect results from our efforts as fast as possible. In which case, you can plant these in your garden and start getting some produce ready while you wait for other vegetables that require a few months to be ready for harvest. The vegetable with the top position is the fastest growing vegetable, based on the number of required days for maturity.

1 – Radishes

Most varieties will be ready for harvest after 25 days, which means within a month you will be enjoying your radishes. You can plant them immediately after the last frost, and with succession planting every 2 weeks or so, you will have a readily available supply all summer long.

2 – Spinach

It will take anywhere between 40 to 60 days for your spinach to be ready for harvest. It all depends on the variety and how good you are at taking care of your crop. This is a cool weather crop so it is best to plant yours immediately after the first frost and then plan for another crop at the end of summer going into fall.

3 – Swiss Chard

When it comes to swiss chard you can expect to harvest after 50 days with most varieties. Unlike it’s look alike cousin Spinach, it can survive in full or partial sunlight. Often referred to as one of the longest growing leafy greens, it is possible to plant yours in late spring and then enjoy the same crop all summer long.

4 – Bush Beans

Your bush beans should be ready for harvest in 50 days. Unlike the other vegetables already listed above, beans prefer warmer weather. Therefore the best time to plant your beans is from mid-June to mid-September. They don’t necessarily need additional fertilizer, however at the very least make sure that you provide them with 2 to 3 inches of water every week.

5 – Zucchini

When planted just after the last frost, they should be ready for harvest in 52 days. They are fully fledged member of the summer squash family and fast becoming a popular in many households. Unlike their other ‘squash’ cousins, it is recommended that you check on your zucchini daily when harvest time comes. Enjoy some fresh and preserve the rest.
