How To Grow Zucchini

I remember, every time I heard that word as a young girl I giggled so much it annoyed my mum. I don’t know why but it just did. Even then, I still enjoyed it when it appeared on the plant. This is why like growing giant pumpkins veggies, I was really excited to learn how to grow zucchini in our garden.

The zucchini is a member of the squash species Cucurbita pepo. Its early origins are traced back to Northern Italy and commonly used in cooking. You can also enjoy it fresh straight from the vine, or try grillin’ it on the barbecue too. There are many different varieties available for you to choose from. Have you every tried to make low calorie zucchini noodles?

Here’s What You’ll Need:

It is recommended that you plant your seeds indoors about 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Use small pots and plant each seed about an inch deep. Make sure the young seedlings receive a lot of sunlight, so if you do not have a greenhouse sit the plants on a sunny windowsill. Before transplanting make sure that each plant has been hardened off.

After the last frost transfer the plants either to your garden or to a large pot. I have personally found that using a trellis to support them works so much better, than just letting the vines grow on the ground. Remember to water the plants well, to keep them healthy and growing strong.
