How To Grow Soyabeans

So today I decided why not look at another one of those less talked about ‘beans’? We have grown beans in plastic bags and the grandpa’s pole beans every season in our garden. Last season I gave these a try, and ended up with a pretty good harvest hence I decided to share how to grow soyabeans.

There are many different varieties you can grow like Butterbeans which are full flavor, Black Jet, Toya and Envy which are both short season beans. Soyabeans are a a good source of protein and can be used around the homestead to make soy milk, soy flour, torfu for human consumption and also as livestock feed.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

When it comes to planting we just planted the seeds directly into the ground after the last frost. The ideal spacing will be about six inches apart and your want to plant the seeds at least an inch deep in rows. Cover the seeds up with your soil and water well.

Keep an eye out for wild birds, they love to pick the seeds before they germinate. Also rabbits like to nibble on the young plants, so try to protect them. Depending on the variety you plant they should be ready for harvest within 75 to 105 days. When all the beans have lost their fresh color, simply pull the whole plant from the ground.
