How To Grow Black Beans

It really is amazing how many different types of beans you can grow in your garden. This year I grew pinto beans successfully for the first time. We also grow grandpa’s pole beans, fava beans, and even canned some black beans that I got from our neighbor. I did some research on how to grow black beans online, just the other day.

Apparently, they too are easy to grow. It is also easy to get a good harvest. You can plant them on the same bed with other beans such as soya beans, white beans as well as green beans. This will help with saving space in my already over crowded garden. There are many different varieties available for planting. Select one that fits your zone as well as your needs.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

You can choose to grow your black beans in containers or directly into the garden bed. The best location is one that gets full sunshine every single day. Germination should take about 14 days. They do not require too much care, just remember to keep them watered. They should be ready for harvest anywhere between 100 to 110 days.

At that time the plants should be brown and toppled over. Give the pod a good shake and the beans should rattle. Harvesting involves pulling the whole plant from the ground and leaving it to hang upside down for about 7 days. After which you can pick the pods of the plant and snap them open to extract the beans. Store in a a glass jar in a cool dry place until use.
