As if we do not already have enough ways to enjoy onions. I mean we pretty much use them in almost every single recipe in the kitchen and I have also shared how to can caramelized onions. We have also pickled plenty of other things too, I am sure you will enjoy this pickled red onions recipe too.
Their scientific name is Allium Cepa and although they are already mild to sweet in flavor, they taste really good pickled too. Besides the onions, you will require 8 other ingredients for this recipe which include a couple of spices too. You will probably be tempted to nibble on a few after they have cooled down a little, but they taste way better if you wait a few hours.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- red onions
- lime
- white wine vinegar
- sugar
- kosher salt
- peppercorns
- whole coriander
- lime juice
- water
- colander
- medium pot
- medium microwave safe bowl
- large spoon
- jars
If you are tight on time, then go ahead and use your microwave as directed. I prefer to do it the the ‘harder’ way, which involves heating everything on the stove. You will need boiling water to prep your onions, so heat up some water in a medium size pot. When stuffing the jars, don’t forget to add the lime slices too. It is recommended that you allow the onions to ‘marinate’ for at least 2 hours in your fridge before indulging. Enjoy! 🙂
