How To Repel Snakes Naturally

There are many different pesky critters that can cause havoc on any homestead. They always say prevention is better than cure, that is why I have already shared this diy liquid garden fence recipe as well as this diy box rabbit trap. One of the most feared of these ‘critters’ are snakes. So I decided to share some ideas on how to repel snakes naturally on your homestead.

The use of natural methods is not only cost effective, but it is not harmful to the environment. The good thing is that there a few methods, that you can choose from when dealing with snakes naturally. A better approach would be to combine them, whenever possible.

Method #1: Lemongrass

I have already covered how to grow lemongrass, in a previous post. You can refer to that for more information. When it comes to dealing with snakes, planting this herb around the perimeter of your buildings will naturally repel snakes. In addition to snakes, you will also be repelling ticks as well as mosquitoes.

Method #2: Garlic Spray

I haven’t really tried this option myself as it requires re-application every 14 to 21 days. However, if you blend water and garlic cloves to a paste. Then add garlic infused oil, before blending again. Store in a mason jar, use only after letting it sit for at least 60 minutes. Once ready for use, you can apply a couple of drops in strategic areas around the homestead.

Method #3: Wormwood

Like lemongrass, plant some wormwood, around the perimeter of your homestead. Just remember to maintain it otherwise it will grow uncontrollably and take over.

Method #4: Clove & Cinnamon Essential Oils

Seriously, what would we do without essential oils? LOL. For repelling snakes simply mix equal parts of the two essential oils. Then go ahead and spray those ‘snake’ prone areas.

Method #5: Chickens, Pigs & Guinea Fowl

You are probably already raising chickens, pigs and or guinea fowl. But did you know that they all attack snakes, and effectively chasing them away from your homestead.
