How To Milk A Goat With A Breast Pump

OMG! A breast pump, really? Yep, you read that title right. This post is all about how to milk a goat with a breast pump. When it comes to goats on this blog, we have already covered how to pasteurize goat milk, how to make dairy goat feed as well as how to make diy mason jar goat milker. And since we now have a few more goats on the homestead, you should expect even more goat related posts in the future.

By the way, how refined are your goat milking skills? Regardless, it is recommended that you use the breast pump with smaller goat breeds only. The bigger goats tend to have bigger teats that are too big for the attachments. In the past a few of our goats have had kids which refuse to nurse and using a breast pump has been a life saver. In any case, I wouldn’t recommend you go out and buy a brand new pump for the sole purpose of milking your goats.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The first thing you must do is select the right size breast attachment for your goats. Once you have the attachment, you can then test the different settings on the pump. Next, you’ll need to select the appropriate suction strength for each one of your goats. Whilst milking, keep an eye on the whole process, making sure that you don’t stress the goats. You may also find, it maybe better to start the milking process by hand and then attach the breast pump midway.
