How To Make Homemade Plum Jelly

Gone are the days when finding out that a particular fruit made a nice jam or jelly would shock me. I mean after making homemade banana jam or homemade kiwi jam, how could that still be possible. In today’s post I thought we should take a look at this homemade plum jelly recipe.

Again, after having made a couple of homemade jelly recipes, nowadays I tend to prefer the ones that do not include pectin. Nevertheless, this particular one does include it as one of the ingredients. The process can be a bit messy, therefore it is wise that you put on some old clothes. It should take you a little less than 2 hours to make this, with a total yield of about 8 half pint jars.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

After giving your plums a good wash, cut them into halves and heat them over medium heat in the saucepan. When the mixture starts boiling, you then reduce the heat and cover the pan. Allow everything to cook for at least an hour, all the while occasionally stirring the mixture.

When ready, it is then strained fist through the colander, then thr cheesecloth. You should have a plum juice left which you will then add the rest of the ingredients too over heat and leave to boil. When the jelly is ready it can be transfered to the jars and then processed for at least 20 minutes in hot water or a water bath canner.
