The world is such a beautiful place, you do not have to just like one thing. For instance, there are many different varieties of fruit and vegetables. There are purple sun carrots, chocolate bell peppers and even purple cauliflower. Would you like to learn how to grow yellow plums?
After a little research, I discovered that some people call these Mirabelle plums. As a gardener, I was happy to learn that they are actually not difficult to grow. The smart gardener, would also search for the European variety simply because they self pollinate. This makes like so much easier you can get away with one or two trees in your orchard.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- plum seeds or seedlings
- calcium nitrate
- organic fertilizer
- mulch
- pruning shears
These trees will require a slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Make sure you find a nice sunny location with well drained soil, to plant your seeds or seedlings. For the adventurous gardener, why not try propagating using a branch. When fully grown these trees can get to about 16 feet tall, make sure they have plenty of space to grow freely.
When it comes to fertilizer, apply organic fertilizer in early spring in the first two years, followed by Calcium Nitrate about 2 months later, usually late Spring. The trees will need to be watered well, applying mulch will help reduce the frequency. It will take about 4 to 6 years for the tree to bear any fruit.
