I think learning how to grow kale, was probably one of first things I did when I initially started gardening. Ever since I have moved on to how to grow kalettes as well as other greens of course. Staying within the ‘kale’ family I have now also learnt how to grow kale microgreens, which are a lot easier to grow too.
As with all microgreens, there has been a sudden increase in them over the last couple of years as scientists have exposed them to have a lot of health benefits. When looking at kale microgreens, they are saying that they help fight off cancer, boost the immune system and also help reduce heart-related disease. You can probably see why it maybe a great idea to get started growing them, if you haven’t done so already.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- kale seeds
- growing trays
- sterilized soil
- coconut coir
- earthworm castings
- spray bottle
- grow lights (optional)
One of your growing trays should have drainage holes, and should fit into the other one which will hold any water that drains through. After filling the tray with the soil, you want to moisten it. The seeds are just sprinkled over the top and initially you have to cover the tray with a lid. Leave in a dark area, mist with water everyday and germination should occur within 2 to 3 days. After germination expose your microgreens to indirect sunlight and they should be ready for harvest within 8 to 12 days.
