Whenever you think of growing basil, most of us probably think of our herb gardens. I know I do, since I’ve started quite a few of those over the years. But, do you remember the earlier posts on how to grow microgreens and how to grow kale microgreens? Today, I would like us to look at how to grow basil microgreens.
You know what? It seems I’ve just barely scratched the surface when it comes to growing microgreens. It turns out there are so many different seeds that can be grown using this method. For instance, basil can be grown both indoor and outdoors, just make sure that the location receives plenty of sunlight. Otherwise, you may have to consider using grow lights, in order to keep your microgreens healthy. When harvested they can be enjoyed on sandwiches, salads, or even as a garnish.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- basil seeds
- container
- seed starting mix
- filtered or non chlorinated water
- sunlight
- grow lights (optional)
Your soil has to be moist before you can plant your seeds. Recommended seed spacing when sowing is about have an inch. Ideally you should cover the seeds with the mix when sown, however even seeds that are left uncovered should still germinate. Patience is required when it comes to waiting for basil seeds to germinate, just make sure you keep the soil moist and the container is in a warm location. Our kitchen window sill, works well for me. !:)
