When it comes to onions, I personally love that they are so many different varieties that you can grow in your garden. From growing red onions, to growing walking onions and even re-growing green onions. I recently discovered yet another one, and as usual had to do some quick research on how to grow iitoli onions.
More commonly referred to as potato onions or multiplier onion, it turns out that there are super easy to grow. They are pretty much drought resistant, so they can be grown every where. They make great companion plants to beets, strawberries and tomatoes. However, you should not plant them near your beans and peas. It is amazing how easily one bulb can multiply into 8 to 10 bulbs.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- i’itoli onion bulbs
- compost (optional)
- organic fertilizer (optional)
Depending on your climate you can either plant them in early spring or fall. There are no seeds for this variety, so you are going to have to plant the bulbs about an inch deep and a foot apart. the richer your soil, the bigger the bulbs will be when it is time to harvest. You can apply a little compost but there is really no need to add extra fertilizer.
Watering regularly is also recommended, not only to keep the plants alive but to also boost the size of the bulbs. The bulbs will be ready for harvest when the green tops have dried out and turned brown. At which point you can simply pull the bulbs out of the ground and leave to cure in cool area, before storing your onions.
