Naturally we grew up thinking that ALL plants grew from seeds, which is true to some extent. However, the deeper you dive into the gardening world you discover that they are some exceptions to this ‘rule’. We have already looked at how to grow dragon fruit from cuttings, how to grow curry leaf from cuttings and how to grow basil from cuttings. In today’s post I am going to school you, on how to grow grapes from cuttings.
There are now many different grape varieties available out there, some have no seeds. However, any growing grape vine is game when it comes to collecting your cuttings for this method. Which makes this method perfect for propagating those ever so sweet and often tangy seedless grapes. Having no seeds is not a problem anymore, simply locate the actual grape vine. Also no rooting hormones or additives are needed either, just pure clean water will get the job done.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- grape vines
- mason jar
- water
- pruning shears
- small containers
- potting soil
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Use the shears to cut long brown vines off the establish grape vines.
Step 2.
Remove any excess branches or leaves from your vines.
Step 3.
Clip your longer vines, into shorter ones. Each cutting should be about 6 inches long and have at least 3 nodes (where branches or leaves are actively growing from).
Step 4.
Half fill your mason jar with water and drop your cuttings into the jar.
Step 5.
Place the jar on a window sill that recieves plenty of sunlight.
And now you wait! Within 7 days, little root shoots should start growing on the cuttings. Remember to change the water in the jar every 5 to 6 days. After about 14 days, there should be extensive root formation. These cuttings will now be ready for transplanting into a small container with potting soil. Don’t forget to water your cutting immediately after transplanting it, otherwise you may damage the already established root system.
