Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • grapevine seedling
  • large container
  • potting soil
  • compost
  • mulch
  • wood trellis or frame support

Unlike most other plants, the best time to plant your grapes is in early fall just after the summer harvest. This allows your plant to get established before winter kicks in. Planting your seedling is pretty much the same process as most other container plants.

Your grapes will however need, full sunshine, space for roots to grow, pruning to keep the plants growing as well as preparing at least one new fruiting branch every year. You will also need to train your vines, and keep the maximum number of branches to two per container to accommodate for the limited container space.

Remember, you have to prepare your grapes one year before in order for it to produce fruit the following year. Also it will take a few years for your plant to start producing grapes, so patience is a good virtue.
