How To Graft Fruit Trees

This is one of the things, I’ve been dying to experiment with over the last couple of years. I believe the time has finally come for me to learn how to graft fruit trees. In earlier posts, we have already successfully covered how to grow peach from a pit, how to grow cherry trees from seed and also how to grow apricots from seed. I am determined to master this too, I shall succeed. LOL.

Although our orchard has already been established in the backyard, I am always open to absorbing more fruit growing techniques. As you know, grafted trees almost always start producing fruit way faster than trees grown from seed. It is however very important that you only graft healthy trees to increase your chances of success. Also make sure that you’re using the right tools, especially when it comes to the grafting knife.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

The first step in the grafting process involves preparing the tree for grafting. Next, you have to find the right shoot to graft and then prepare it for grafting by cleaning it up, removing any leaves and shortening it to at least 4 inches long. Use the grafting knife to make the required cuts and the grafting tape to bandage your grafted tree. For the desired greenhouse effect on the grafted area, we cover with the plastic bag and secure it around that area.
