How To Dehydrate Sweet Potatoes

There is a very close friend of mine, who once made a declaration that she does not dehydrate any fresh produce and never will. I tried to explain to her, how much of her produce she could preserve if she started dehydrating, but to no avail. As for me, I love dehydrating pumpkin, dehydrating grapes and even dehydrating carrots. In fact, today I want us to look at how to dehydrate sweet potatoes.

I don’t care what anybody says, but you can never have too many dehydrating recipes. Never! Now dust off your food dehydrator, because we are going to need it today. How many sweet potatoes can you dehydrate? Well, it all depends on their size, how many you can fit on each tray and how many trays your dehydrator has. Do the maths and you should be able to figure out the required quantities. Just don’t overload your trays or you may have to run the dehydrator for longer than needed.

Here’s What You’ll Need

Since you are dealing with fresh produce, it is always recommended that you wash and dry before peeling. The easier slicing method would be to use a mandolin slicer, but if you don’t have one a sharp knife will have to do. There is a pre-requisite blanching step, before you can place the slices on your dehydrator trays and allow them to dry for about 12 hours or so. She recommends storing them in canning jars, but I prefer to use air tight containers and save my jars. 🙂
