How To Dehydrate Blueberries

When they are in season, we try by all means to use enjoy and use them whilst fresh. However, each year our harvest has been steadily increasing so now we have to resort to canning blueberries or even pickling them. Another great way to preserve your blueberries will be by dehydrating them.

Most of us already have food dehydrators in our kitchens, this is really the only tool you need to process your blueberries. The preparation process is pretty straight forward, and then you let the machine do the hard work. Although I am yet to try it, I am sure if you have the solar version, you could still use that. It probably would just take a little longer to dry the blueberries.

Here’s What You’ll Need

First things first, you want to wash your berries. Then you want to remove any stems from the bad looking ones, before you spread them out on the dehydrator trays. Make sure that they are in one single layer and not overlapping each other. Process on the fruit setting, usually takes between 8 to 18 hours and then store them in either an air tight container or ziploc bags.
