Although most of the time, in an effort to save water we tend to take showers on the homestead. Sometimes when it rains a lot, we have plenty of readily available water and that is when I usually take baths in our diy wood fired tub. My friend Suzie, introduced me to these homemade therapeutic bath salts, and my life has never been the same.
I was surprised to find out that the recipe calls for 5 simple everyday ingredients that are readily available in many kitchens. The core recipe is the same, but you can make different blends by using different combinations of essential oils. My favorite by far is the ‘relaxation’ blend. That is usually the mood I am in when I decide to use these salts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- coarse sea salt
- epsom salts
- baking soda
- essential oils
- food coloring
- large mixing bowl
- small bowls
- airtight jars
- labels
- markers
The recipe calls for 6 parts coarse salt, 3 parts epsom salts and 1 part baking soda. Mix these core ingredients well in your mixing bowl before dividing into smaller equal parts. Then you can add essential oils and food coloring to each part for the different moods. Store in airtight jars, and don’t forget to clearly label each one.
Blends: For relaxation, try 10 drops of lavender and begamont essential oils. Clear your mind, is a mixture of rosemary and lemon. Sinus cleaning, combines peppermint and eucalyptus. Stress relief is a more complex blend of 10 drops of clove as well as 5 drops of orange, lemon and cedarwood. Feel free to experiment with your own blends too. 🙂
