Homemade Floor Cleaner Recipe

So are you just going to leave your floors dirty and grimy because you’ve run out of cleaning solution? I have already shown you how to make your own homemade oven cleaner, homemade eyeglass cleaner and homemade toilet bowl cleaner. In today’s post we shall be tackling this homemade floor cleaner solution, that you can use to clean most types of floors in your home.

Just like most other homemade cleaner recipes, this one is not only simple but also inexpensive. Be careful of the toxicity of store bought cleaners. Basically, everyone who walks barefoot on your floors is going to be absorbing the toxins. Some have really strong artificial fragrances which often irritate our sinuses and respiratory systems. You may start sneezing, coughing or even suffer from headaches. This recipe disinfects as well as scrubs the floor. We have excluded vinegar because it is not recommended for use on hardwood floors.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

2 cups water
1/4 cup alcohol
1/2 teaspoon dish soap
5 drops tea tree essential oil
10 drops of lemon, orange, lavender or pine essential oils
Swiffer or any other flat mop

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Mix all the ingredients in the mop resevoir.

Step 2.

Mop your floor.

This solution keeps for several months, therefore you can just keep it in the mop’s container until it’s done. Whenever you have a mopping job, bring out your Swiffer or any other flat mop, squirt a little cleaner on the floor and clean the dirt or mess. For the alcohol, I just steal from my alcohol cabinet, vodka and tequila are usually my go to bacteria assassins. 🙂

For a bigger batch of the homemade floor cleaner:

1/2 gallon water
1 cup alcohol
2 teaspoons of dish soap
40 drops of essential oils (your choice)
20 drops of tea tree essential oil
bucket and mop

Just add all the ingredients into a bucket, mix everything together and start mopping. Throw away the dirty liquid when you’re done. For the essential oils, choose whichever one you fancy, these are more for the fragrance rather than anything else. Now get cleaning! 🙂
