DIY Trough Style Chicken Feeder

It’s true, I can never get enough of my chicken feeders. Anytime I see a brand new design, I am always open to giving it a try. That is why over the years we have ended up with many of these. From the diy garbage can chicken feeder, to the diy long arm PVC chicken feeder and the diy cinder block chicken feeder. In today’s post we’ll be making this diy trough style chicken feeder.

Most of the other ones, we have made are not able to feed a large number of birds. With this one, you can do that. However, your feed is exposed, so you will have a lot more waste. It is still worth a try, just see how it works for you when compared to all your other feeders. I also like that you can build one of these for less than $20 if you are buying all the materials, and way less if you reuse some.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Measure out, mark and cut your gutter in half.

Step 2.

Cut five 6″ long 2×4 pieces that you will use as footings.

Step 3.

Screw on the three footings on to the gutter and then
screw on the end blocks onto the outer footers.

Step 4.

Measure and cut out your PVC pipe, to the same length
as your feeder.

Step 5.

Cut two 5″ long pieces of PVC pipe and screw them onto
the side plywood end caps.

Step 6.

Attach the elbow and glue on the pipe on both ends.

There you go, your feeder is ready for use. Fill the trough up with feed and let the birds go wild. This type of feeder can be used to feed your chickens, ducks and even your turkeys. The advantages of using this type of feeder, is that it can hold a lot of feed. Which is ideal if you are feeding a lot of birds at one time.
