DIY Rabbit Carrot Toy

Most of all the other livestock on the homestead have their own toys, why should the rabbits be left out? The chickens have the diy chicken seed roll treats as well as the diy chicken boredom buster toy. Whilst the goats have the diy tetherball goat toy. Today I decided to show you how to make this diy rabbit carrot toy.

From the title, you would think that there is an actual carrot included with the toy. However that is not the case. What we will be doing is building a carrot shaped toy that the rabbits can play with. The treat will be the hay that we use, or you can stuff a small piece of some other dried fruit into the toy itself. Don’t use short hay for this project, it should take you less than 5 minutes to make each toy.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • hay
  • twine
  • scissors
  • treat (optional)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Fold the hay into a rabbit shape, by folding one third up and the other third down.

Step 2.

Start wrapping your twine around the hay about midway of the carrot working your way down getting tighter towards the bottom. Then wrap the twine all the way up again and tie it down.

Step 3.

Use the scissors to snip off extra hay, both at the top of the toy and the bottom.

When forming the carrot shape you want one end of the hay to be thinner than the other. Sometimes it is difficult to get this by folding, so just use the scissors to cut the hay into a carrot shape. If you are adding a treat to the toy, you can stuff it in right into the top end of the twine, and use that to hold it in place.
