It is not surprising that during the winter months we go through a lot of firewood as we are using it for both cooking and heating purposes. We have store our firewood in a number of different ways like the diy plumbing pipe firewood holder and the diy cinder block kindling holder. We need a larger storage solution, the hubby wants this diy cinder block firewood rack.
The first thing that attracted me to this particular design, is that there no tools required to build this rack. From the comments, I have established that this is actually a very strong and stable rack. You know I always encourage you to re-use materials on your homestead, to save some money. Oh, and it is portable too, allowing you to easily move it from one location to another.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- cinder blocks
- landscape timbers
- 2×4 planks
- firewood
- small rocks (optional)
- tarp (optional)
Begin by establishing stable surfaces on the ground to sit your cinder blocks. Then you can lay the support timbers on the outer edges of your blocks, which must have the holes facing upwards. The 2x4s go in the holes, with the small rocks going first on all dirt surfaces to encourage drainage.
The 2x4s should be leaning outwards, to provide the adequate support needed. Additionally you can add a tarp to cover the wood, this can be held down using a combination of bricks and rope. This way you can keep your wood covered and protected, wet wood is often very difficult to burn.
