How dare you let your thorn less blackberries grow unsupported, when there is a super easy fix? How dare you? LOL! Just like when we built this diy cattle panel trellis, this diy tomato string trellis and this diy wood pallet cucumber trellis in previous blog posts. Today, we are going to be tackling this diy blackberry trellis.
There are probably a few other options available on the internet as far as diy blackberry trellises are concerned. I chose this particular one simply because it required fewer materials and seemed like an easy build. Make sure that you use a thick wire, preferably at least 14 gauge. This way you are almost assured that the wire won’t snap or sag from the weight of the blackberry plants. This type of trellis although simple, it sure gets the job done.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 4×4 60″ wooden posts
- vine or eyelet screws
- heavy-duty garden wire
- post hole digger
- tape measure
- concrete mix (optional)
- wood stain (optional)
The first thing that you must do, before you start building your trellis is to measure the length. Ideally, your plants should maintain six feet in row spacing, we opted to place our posts about 6 and a half feet apart. It’s also best to use concrete when digging your posts in, this keeps them firm in the ground. Next step, involves screwing in the eyelets on the poles. Just make sure they are on the same side of all the posts, as well as at the same height.
With your eyelets in place, the wire can then be stretched in between the posts. Because our poles were concreted in, we used one long length but wrapped it around each eyelet. Optionally, shorter pieces of wire that stretch from pole to pole can also be used. I prefer all my diy projects to be durable, therefore I took the extra time to to stain the posts.
