So you like hummus, huh? But have you ever tried making it at home in your own kitchen? One of the ingredients you are going to need will only be readily available because of this canning garbanzo beans recipe. We have already explored this pressure canning chicken recipe, this pressure canning ham recipe and this pressure canning potatoes recipe in earlier posts. Don’t worry, this one should also be a walk in the park.
The one thing that complicates most pressure canning recipes, is trying to figure out the pressure required for processing at your altitude level. If it wasn’t for the manual, most people (me included) would be super confused. Garbanzo beans are also more commonly known as chickpeas, especially here in the US. From this recipe you can expect a yield of at least 9 pints, which you can store in a cool dry place until needed.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- dried garbanzo beans
- garlic
- salt
- water
- large stock pot
- paper towel
- kitchen towel
- pressure canner
- canning utensils
The beans go into the stock pot for a quick boiling session, before you set them aside for at least an hour to soak up some of that hot liquid. Meanwhile you should sterilize your canning jars so that you can pack them with the beans, garlic, salt and hot water. After wiping the jars, screw on the lids and rings, before you can finally process the jars in your pressure canner as directed by your manual. Use the jar lifter, to lift the jars when processed.
