Alright, I have a confession to make. I have been secretly wishing for a hammock for many years now. We have recently built the diy one plywood board chairs, but yeah I still want that hammock. I was going to hang it between two trees in our backyard, but that did not seem safe enough. So now onto plan B, which is building this diy hammock stand project.

As far as total cost of materials is concerned, this should not cost you more than $40. You know we always have a lot of leftover materials, so I am sure we will be able to cut that cost down a little bit. Another advantage of building a stand, is that it is portable, you can move it to any shaded spot on demand.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• 2×4 boards
• 12″ long bolts
• 8″ long bolts
• 1/2″ nuts
• 1/2″ washers
• measuring tape
• circular saw or chop saw
• hand drill
• 1/2″ paddle bit
• deck screws
• hammock
• large S hooks

With your boards, laying on the ground you want to first line them up so you are able to drill the holes for the long bolts. You start on one side, then you repeat on the other side. When done you can lay the whole structure on its side, in order to be able to determine the angle you require for your boards to fit your hammock.

Keep the hammock between 4 to 5 feet off the ground, and create a template on a small piece of paper for the required angle. The brace will hold the structure together at the right angle, using the 12″ long bolts. The legs go on next, before you finish off with the bolt, that holds your hangers or the S hooks. Now all that’s left is to hang the hammock, and relax! 🙂
