DIY Wooden Tomato Cages

If you have ever grown tomatoes in your garden without a support system or with a weak support system, then you will understand my frustration with the wire tomato cages. In the past we have tried these diy pvc tomato cages, but they are a little on the expensive side. Hence the decision to experiment with these diy wooden tomato cages.

What I love about these ones is that they are sturdy, easy and inexpensive to build. You may already have the boards you need left over from a previous project. If not you can always visit a local hardware store and grab yourself some.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 2×2 boards
  • 1×2 boards
  • measuring tape
  • nail gun
  • wooden screws
  • saw
  • safety glasses
  • jig saw

With our tools and materials ready for use, we started the project off by measuring the boards and making all the required cuts. My hubby does not enjoy how I am very particular about the exact measurements and stuff. Poor hubby! lol

The side supports of the cage, are pretty easy to assemble as long as you have your measurements right. Then you just connect the two at the top middle and bottom, repeating on the other side too. We adopted the assembly line idea, and that helped us build all ten a lot faster.
