Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 5 gallon plastic bucket
  • cordless drill
  • wire coat hanger
  • pliers or wire cutter
  • tin can
  • peanut butter
  • Scrap of wood for ramp
  • water (optional)

It should not take you more than 20 minutes to set this up. You can even get the kids to help you and make this a family project. One you have the tin can in place and spinning freely, apply the peanut butter evenly to set the trap.

How Does It Work?

The piece of wood on one side or both sides of the wire will act as a ramp allowing the mice to get up to the tin can from the ground. When they try to eat the peanut butter the tin can will rotate, the mice lose their balance and fall into the bucket.

You can make this a humane mouse trap by leaving it with no water in the bucket. If you want to kill the rats or mice just add some water in the bucket and when they fall in they will swim for a while and eventually drown after they get tired. A very simple but clever way to control those pesky rodents in your home or  chicken coop.
