How To Save & Store Strawberry Seeds

The reality of the situation is that most gardeners prefer to buy their seeds. I used to be one of those but I have now learnt how to save heirloom tomato seeds and even gone as far as establishing this diy seed vault for storing my seeds. In today’s post, let us explore how to save and store strawberry seeds.

On each and every ripe strawberry, the seeds are clearly visible. If you have a lot of time on your hands, you could perhaps pick up some tweezers and then go and pluck out as many seeds as possible. No doubt, you will end up with some seeds. However, there is an easier way to do it. It sure is messy, but it gets the job done way faster too.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • fresh strawberries
  • water
  • blender
  • fine meshed strainer
  • paper towel
  • envelope (optional)
  • mason jar (optional)
  • ziploc bag (optional)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Select up to 5 strawberries and add to your
blender with the water.

Step 2.

Power up the blender and process at the
low setting for about 10 seconds.

Step 3.

Remove any floating seeds and pour the
mixture through your strainer.

Step 4.

When the liquid has drained out, lay your
seeds on the paper towel and leave to dry.

Give your seeds time to dry, you can even place the paper towel on a windowsill that gets a lot of sunshine during the day. These seeds store well in envelopes, placed inside a sealed glass jar or else in a ziploc bag in your fridge. I prefer to store mine in the envelopes versus them taking up storage space in my refrigerator.
