Unlike on larger farms, goats tend to be the norm on smaller homesteads. Maybe it because they are they can be milked and are easier to take care of than their larger cousin… cows. I have already shared this diy goat milking stand and also how to milk a goat and the homemade teat wash for goats. My hubby showed me this diy PVC milking stand the other night, I thought it was rather cool.
I usually find building using PVC easier than wood. The cuts are simpler and also the cost is often way less. For example, if you are going to buy all the required materials, then this build cost you just about $50. Whenever possible, I recommend that you reuse and re-purpose leftover materials. Time wise, expect to have this stand erected anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 20 ft. 1.5″ PVC pipe
- 3′ 1″ PVC pipe
- 1.5″ PVC T’s
- 1.5″ 90 degree PVC corners
- 1.5″ end caps 3″ clevis pins
- 3″ pins, plywood
- PVC “blue” glue
- 5/8-1″ deck screws
- cutting saw or hacksaw
- zip ties
- plywood
- handheld drill
- tape measure
- marker
Start by cutting all the pieces required for the sides, cross braces and legs for the base. The sides will be assembles using T’s. The legs have one T and are inserted into the sides with the cross braces connecting all the sides. Make sure you check the alignment of all the joints, the platform should also be square before gluing everything together.
Cut the plywood that will provide extra support for the platform and attach using the deck screws at each of the T connections. The cut all the pieces for the head gate and use the T’s and 90 degree corners to assemble. After checking the alignment glue everything together. The headgate will be inserted into the base and can be attached permanently with glue or use clevis pins to allow for portability. Attach the locking bar and then the feeding pan to the front to complete the build.
