How To Grow Yellow Pear Tomatoes

Show me a vegetable garden, no matter how small that does not have a single tomato plant and that would be the very first time I have seen one. Luckily there are many different varieties, one could grow litchi tomatoes, or grow purple indigo tomatoes. Instead of sticking the popular varieties, I enjoy mixing it up a teeny bit like growing yellow pear tomatoes, for instance.

What I believe, most of us really love about this heirloom tomato variety besides its color of course, is that when it produces fruit, you get a whole bunch of it. As for the flavor, it tends to lean towards the sweet side, although it is still pretty mild. Another added benefit, is that they can withstand cold temperatures, therefore you can plant them later and still be able to enjoy them way into the fall months. Don’t you think the pear shape is cute too? I do, I do. LOL

Here’s What You’ll Need:

So ideally, you should start your seedlings indoors in trays. Germination should take up to 21 days, and they should be about 6 inches tall and ready for transplant within 8 to 10 weeks. Just make sure that the mercury at night is above 60 degrees F. The best location is one that gets a lot of sunlight during the day. Also try plant in acidic soil with a 5.0 to 6.0 pH. Plant spacing for best results is recommended at 3 feet apart.

Water well, and feed them with compost tea or any other liquid fertilizer at least twice. Adding mulch is also recommended as a water saving and weed suppressing solution. They should be ready for harvest within 70 to 80 days, ripe ones will easily pluck off the stem. Once they start ripening, you’ll have about a 2 month regular supply of these gorgeous tomatoes.
