DIY Seed Starting Mix

Most plants in your garden start off as seeds. In an effort to save money, it would be wise to not only use this diy potting soil mix, diy miracle gro or this diy organic fertilizer for your plants. You can also use this diy seed starting mix in your seedling trays.

As it should be, homemade seed starting mix recipes should be kept simple. This particular one only requires 3 main ‘ingredients’. The compost slowly provides nutrients for the seedlings, the coconut fiber helps with the retention of moisture whilst the perlite helps to improve the amount of air. You can save even more money by using leaf mold or sand instead of the other 2 ingredients.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

I usually mix everything together in the wheel barrow. For every two shovels of compost and coconut fiber, you want to add one shovel of perlite or sand. Your hands are the perfect tool for mixing everything together. Once mixed you can use immediately, just remember to add a little water before planting your seeds. Otherwise, store in a container with a lid or and empty sack until needed.
