How To Grow Avocados From Seed

These soft green flesh filled ‘grenades’ are not only yummy but super healthy too. After having shown you how to grow an avocado tree, I also shared how to freeze avocados as well as shrimp and avocado salad recipe in earlier posts. Today we are going to revisit the topic on how to grow avocados from seed, but with a slight twist.

After mastering this easy technique you are going to need more avocado recipes to try, once the tree grows and starts producing plenty of fruit. Unlike the popular method that most of us gardeners are familiar with, no toothpicks or a jar of water are needed in order for this to work. In fact, your seed is going to sprout and be ready for transplant way faster too. I personally was not a fan of the ‘toothpick’ method either, I am really glad that I discovered this alternative one.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Ideally you want to remove the seed from the avocado and then immediately commence the planting process. You need to wash the seed to remove any remaining flesh before wrapping it in a damp paper towel. The wrapped up seed should be placed in an open container or unsealed ziploc bag and stored in a cool dry place. It usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the root to grow to about 3 inches long, at which point your seed will be ready for transplant into the flower pot.
