How To Dry Chives

Drying or dehydrating is probably one of the most underrated ways of preserving your produce for long term storage. I try to dry a lot of mine from oven drying fresh herbs, to drying peppermint for tea and even go as far as dehydrating pumpkin. Let us add on drying chives to this ever growing list, shall we?

I know most of us like to use chives when they are cut fresh from the garden. However, when you do not have access to the fresh stash, for example during the winter. You may want to dry some, so you can still use them in your dishes. The drying process itself is pretty simple, so there are absolutely no excuses!

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Use your scissors to cut a nice fresh batch from your garden. Wash them well, before dicing them. Next, place them on your dehydrator trays and start the drying process at the lowest possible temperature setting.

Process overnight or for about 8 to 12 hours. When dry you can store in a cool dry place in an air tight container or glass jar. You will now have dried chives for your garnishes, salads, vegetable stocks, creamy sauces, omelettes, potato dishes, soups, artesian breads, steaks and more. Yep, it is that simple! 🙂
