I am actually surprised by the number of plants in my garden that need collars. Do you remember the post I made on the homemade cabbage collars. I am sure you thought that was the only type of collar you need right? Wrong! Today I want to show you how to make these homemade strawberry collars too.
So it doesn’t really matter which strawberry varieties you are growing, these collars can be very handy. Since strawberry plants are susceptible to fungus, you really want to avoid the amount of water that spaces onto the leaves. During the peak summer season, it is recommended that you dress your plants up in this collars. This will essentially reduce the amount of water that gets into contact with your leaves.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- plastic mesh pot scrubber
- plastic grocery bags
- twist tie
- scissors
You want to cut the scrubber open the scrubber at the top in order to get started. After unrolling the scrubber you should gather the tube to the one end before you start stuffing them with plastic bags. When complete you want to have a round tube that you can then carefully place around the base of your strawberry plant as the ‘collar’.
