I can’t wait for cherry season, but that will not stop me from writing about them. LOL In previous posts we looked at how to grow cherries and then I even showed you how to freeze cherries as well as how to dehydrate fresh cherries. Another great way to preserve them would be to make this yummy homemade cherry jam recipe.
When it comes to jam recipes, I personally tend to favor those that do have pectin included in the recipe list. As a result this jam will be not as thick but on the lighter side. It is just perfect for spreading over your pancakes, toast as well as waffles. This recipe only requires 3 ingredients and will yield 3 pints of delicious jam. If that is too much jam for you, you can always consider gifting friends or family a jar or two.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- sweet cherries
- sugar
- lemon juice
- cherry pitter
- large stock pot
- canning jars
- water bath canner
- canning utensils
- kitchen towel
As with all fresh produce, you are going to have to wash the cherries and remove all the pits. The recipe won’t be using them whole, so you also need to chop them up a little bit. Then into the pot they go and it is really time to make the jam with all the other ingredients. When the jam is ready you pack it into canning jars and process them with a water bath canner. The jars should sit on the kitchen counter or table overnight to allow them to seal.
