Fermented Grapefruit Juice

Why most people tend to shy away from the sour citrus fruits, is beyond me. In our orchard out back we now have a steady supply of lemons and red grapefruits, each year. I have already shown you how to ferment lemons, so I had the brilliant idea to share my favorite fermented grapefruit juice recipe with you today.

What I love about most fermentation recipes, is how quick and simple they are. Take this one for example, you only need to mix 4 ingredients, including your grapefruit juice. The only issue I have is that it makes one jar at a time, which is perfect for serving but annoying when you need to make more than one. If you can’t find a mixer for your vodka, a little birdie told me that you could use your fermented juice instead. wink

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Wash and clean your mason jars before you get started. The grapefruit juice goes in first, followed by the culture starter or whey and lastly add that pinch of salt before screwing the lid back on. I give it about 10 quick shakes and then leave the jar to sit on the kitchen counter for at least 24 hours. For an even better ferment, I would recommend you let it sit for up to 48 hours. Chill and store in your fridge, until you feel the urge to indulge. 🙂
