If there is one thing that we can agree on, it is that you absolutely have no excuse when it comes to having no potatoes available to eat. You can grow potatoes the no dig way, grow potatoes in laundry baskets and even grow potatoes in upside down buckets in something. As if those methods were not enough already, let’s talk about this diy easy harvest potato planter.
Since there are quite a few different potato varieties, I feel like I should try growing a couple at the same time. For this particular one, we just need two PVC or plastic pots about 12 inches or so in diameter and we are good to go. There are also no rules stating how many of these you can have at any one time. You could probably harvest about 20 pounds of potatoes in each one.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- seed potatoes
- potting mix
- 2 plastic plant pots
- utility knife
- tape measure
- marker
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1.
Measure and cut out a section of the pot
that is 5″ long on the top section and 4″
along the the bottom section.
Step 2.
Use the cut out piece as a template and cut
out three more sections of the plastic pot.
Step 3.
Place the cut out pot inside the one that
is not and add about 4″ of potting mix.
Step 4.
Plant 4 seed potatoes, cover with potting
soil and water your planter.
Step 5.
As the potatoes grow cover with more potting
soil, and plant more until you fill the container.
When harvest time comes along, you simply lift the inner pot and all the potatoes will be there for easy harvest. Don’t worry the roots will hold everything together, so you won’t end up with a mess after you life the container. When planting your seed potatoes, make sure that you align them with the cut out openings of that inner pot.
