Since we have a lot of space in around the homestead, we tend to like these portable structures. Our pigs have been using this diy pig pen, as their permanent home. But, I feel like during the summer months we could perhaps move them into this diy portable pig pen, instead.
The pig pen setup is not complicated at all. There are several advantages to using this type of shelter. For instance, your pigs will have a lot more space for them to roam and dig into the ground. You will also be able to save on feed as the pigs will be grazing the grass too. The only disadvantage is that you need a strong current from the fence charger in order to keep the pigs inside.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
- wood pallets
- wood screws or nails
- electronic fence
- handheld drill
- 100mi Zareba Fence Charger
Within the pen is the pig tractor, and this provides shelter for the pigs from the sun and rain. It also houses the pigs, when it is time to move the pen to a new location. This tractor is building using the wood pallets, Levi provides a link on their blog which with more information on how to do this.
After completing the tractor, you can then enclose it by establishing a perimeter using the electronic fence. When it is time to move the pigs, they are lured into the tractor which is then shut tight. The fence is carefully removed and the tractor is towed to the next location.
