The lord knows I try, but sometimes just keeping things in order around here is a mission. However, it has to be done that is why I am always looking for different storage solutions. I think so far we have talked about the diy wood floating shelf and diy hanging canned food storage? Well, just the other day I ran into these diy honeycomb shelves, I fell in love with.
If I told you that no wooden blocks or planks were used to make these, you would probably think I am lying to you. However, it is true in this case. These shelves are built using popsticle sticks. Remember the popular saying that, there is strength in numbers? Here is a perfect example of it in action. This project requires a lot more time and patience on your part, but when you see the end result, it will be worth it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- popsicle sticks
- tacky glue
- honeycomb shelf template
- wood stain
- paintbrush
- 2 picture hangers (optional)
The secret to a well built shelf is the template, it is therefore vital that before you get started you have one ready. You can then use it to guide you, as you build the shelf one popsicle at a time. Apparently if you want to speed up the process you have to apply glue to a few popsicle at a time and then carefully lay them in their position.
These shelves are pretty versatile as far as the depth is concerned. You can just keep laying the popsicle stick layers, until you reach your desired depth. After which it would be wise to let everything dry for a few hours, before applying any wood stain. There’s one more decision left whether to hang up your shelves with two nails or a wire hanger. You decide. 🙂
