It is a very simple and affordable tool to make, but when used correctly will save you lots of hours as well as energy. You can make this from reusing things on your homestead or if you want head on over to your local hardware store and grab the 3 required materials. Also, it works best with a layer of course sand on the floor of your coop.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• pitch fork
• hardware cloth
• wire
• wire cutter
• course sand (optional)

Step By Step Instructions

Step 1.

Measure and cut out a piece of hardware cloth
slightly larger than your pitch fork.

Step 2.

Bend over the excess length around the edges

Step 3.

Thread your wire through the hardware cloth
in order to attach to the pitch fork.

There you go! You have your own diy chicken poop rake. As you lift the scoop through the sand on the bottom of your coop, most of the poop should remain on the scoop, whilst the sand falls through. Just dump the poop into a bucket, then add to your compost when you are done cleaning! Easy Peezy! 🙂
